The Japanese Cultural Association of Manitoba (JCAM) is pleased to open registration for the 2026-2027 Japan Public Schools Program.
The JCAM Japan Public Schools Program is a volunteer-run program designed to augment the MB Grade 3 curriculum’s study of Japan. Components include an overview of Japan and Japanese culture, origami, shodo (calligraphy), traditional folk dancing, and language. The program can be adapted for different grade levels.
Regular Programming
Our two-hour program is available Thursday mornings from November to June, excluding the last Thursday of every month. Sessions are 10:00am-12:00noon. Please plan to arrive 10 minutes prior to your start time.
Children’s Week Programming
In addition to regular programming, JCAM Public Schools Program celebrates Children’s Week, to correspond with Golden Week in Japan. During this week, the program will run twice daily (9:30am-11:30am and 12:30pm-2:30pm) on Monday, May 3, Wednesday, May 5, and Friday, May 7. These special sessions feature live demonstrations of Japanese activities such as Karate, Kendo, Taiko, or Japanese dance. Please note there is a limit of 2 sessions per school during Children’s Week.
Please note that all students must depart at the end of all sessions. Lunch facilities are not available.
How to Register:
The Japan Public Schools Program accepts groups of up to 50 students and 5 adults. The cost is $6 per student and per supervising adults over the allotment of 5.
