Director – Mari Nemoto

Mari Nemoto

I am originally from Tokyo. In 2003, I moved to Toronto with my Canadian husband. I have two children in their early twenties. In 2016, I moved to Winnipeg, and I became involved with the Japanese Language School in 2019. I currently serve as both a coordinator and an instructor.

Having been involved with the Japanese school my children attended and the Japanese community in Toronto, I have come to appreciate what makes Winnipeg’s Japanese community so special.

One of its strengths is that the community is neither too large nor too small, and that we have the Centre as a place where people of all generations, from seniors to children, can come together. The Japanese Language School and the Centre also offer a variety of workshops and events that provide opportunities not only for Japanese Canadians, but also for those who are interested in Japan and Japanese culture to participate, enriching our community as a whole.

I have great respect for those who have built and supported the Japanese community in Manitoba over generations. I hope that my own experience can contribute to the continued growth and development of our community.
