Margaret Suzuki

My name is Margaret Suzuki, a third generation (Sansei) Japanese Canadian born in Winnipeg. I have been a member since 1977, the year of the Japanese Canadian Centennial. I started as a youth group member, then joined odori to perform at various functions. Following this I became involved in Folklorama, organizing Group Tours and Bus Tours.
Since my retirement, I have been involved in almost every JCAM event related to food, such as Bon Odori, Keirokai, Izakaya Night, Donburi lunches, Folklorama as well as other special events.
I am current a board member of the Horizon Club and enjoy serving and speaking with our elders. We meet and cook at Horizon Club lunches. It is a place to gather so that our elders can enjoy each other’s company.
My goal is to have more young people participate in events, keep them connected and to carry on our parents’ legacy. I would like all of our members to work together and make our centre a gathering place where all are welcome.
